I am honored that Author Mary Reason Theriot asked me to follow her in the My Writing Process Blog Tour. Please check her out at: https://www.facebook.com/thehideawaybymarytheriot
1) What am I working on?
I have a habit of writing soul mate based romances with quirky characters, so why stop now? This one has undertones that explore how being bullied as a child can stay with us a lifetime.
2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?
My stories never fit the mold. Love’s Forbidden Flower is a civil rights based romance where the love interests are siblings. Scary Modsters contains a unique triangle with the ghost of a dead 60’s rock star. Seriously, so many people are writing about rock stars but not dead mods like Peter Lane. I love characters that jump off of the page and draw you into their world.
3) Why do I write what I do?
Writing is my way of venting. Love’s Forbidden Flower was written out of anger with society because we are discouraged from talking about issues that we do not understand or have a hard time accepting. Scary Modsters is a wild and quirky ride. I wanted to go back to the soul mate concept like in Love’s Forbidden Flower yet also really explore the crazy possibilities of what may exist in the afterlife. Basically my work is me letting loose while trying to tug at your heartstrings.
4) How does your writing process work?
It’s just changed, yet again. I tend to wake with ideas and then can’t get them down fast enough. I started dictating into my phone, but when I got from beginning to end I found I was still getting so caught up in the flow that I would forget where I was going. The more I try to write something that sounds right on the first try, the more I flail. Now I pound out a rough outline of all of the tidbits that are flooding me, then immediately dictate it. I seem to catch pretty much all of my ideas this way.
